Repositioning Cruises
Repositioning cruises are often offered by different cruise lines. For instance, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and others will offer these types of cruises. Repositioning cruises are ones that are planned for the purpose of transporting a vessel’s service from one port to another. This is usually done during the spring or fall of the year. One example of this would be included in the next paragraph. A ship may be located at a port in Mexico one year, and then during the repositioning season that ship may be moved to a port in the Bahamas. In essence, these ships follow the same migration patterns as birds do-South during the winter and North during the summer. A repositioning cruise is not one that is most often heard about when pertaining to discounts. This is a particular way to travel cheap and still receive the same great services as you would other times of the year. Repositioning cruises are offered to many of the same destination locations as regular cruises are. The biggest advantage of these cruises is the fact that they cost so much less that regular prices of seasonal cruises. The other advantage is that travelers have the chance to witness a large amount of wildlife, such as dolphins swimming, or birds flying in groups either north or south. Furthermore, the cruises that are sent out during a repositioning time usually last longer than the normal cruise time.
There are a few disadvantages of taking this type of cruise however. One disadvantage of scheduling a repositioning cruise may be the fact that you are limited to the itinerary and time schedule of the repositioning cruise. Along with that, you may not be able to necessarily have as wide of a selection of ships to choose from, and your trips have to be planned for one specific date and time-only once each year a particular trip will be made. Locations to where repositioning cruises are sent to include Mexico, the Bahamas, Alaska, South America, and the Panama Canal. Transatlantic and domestic repositioning cruises are booked every season.
Sometimes repositioning cruises are even scheduled during the winter or spring. It is possible to find a schedule online of when these ships leave the terminal. This particular information would be usually provided at sites that offer info about repositioning cruises. Reviews of the cruises that are being repositioned are often available online. These are posted on travel review sites, blog pages, and on discussion boards.
